Removing the text labels does add more to learn, though? Not sure how replacing one icon with another saves anybody from learning what an icon-only button does. All buttons on the side have text labels and only the handful in the toolbar are icon-only (run, debug, stop, 4 for git, search, settings). It's sometimes hard to figure out what a button will actually do before I click it I am a developer, I don't need my hand held with a minimalist interface. I still don't quite understand why they are changing. I will use it for a couple of weeks and then provide another round of feedback. I still have a few things about it I don't like but it is usable. I still also think there is too much spacing between GUI elements, although compact mode helps quite a bit. Pretty soon every icon is going to be a single dot.seriously WTF? Can the designers be reigned in? (This isn't a problem in just IntelliJ, it is industry wide) They either need to add the text back to those icons or add appropriate color to the icons so they are easier to identify.ĭesigners are going insane with icon design in this "minimalist" paradigm. However, the ridiculous monochrome minimalist icons on the tool buttons and the removal of the text from the tool buttons are almost a deal breaker. The new UI has vastly improved over when I beta'd it last June or so. it's better than having firehose of versions and each one breaking a build in one way or another. Of course it could get more complicated and the biggest gripe are dependencies, but:Ģ) there is a work on pom model version 5, which should be more compact: (it takes lots of time but I don't mind. They are just scaffolding, you create them and should have to touch them again.īesides, you are exaggerating: the simplest hello-world would be at best a couples of lines: You read your build files? That's interesting.
